A cloudy day in Montreal, but it seems as if the sun shines very bright for the team of Ferrari: Pole and second starting position for the red Italians! Damon Hill drives a pretty famous, unbelieveable qualifying-lap! Best qualifying ever seen – very fast, without mistake, the least stops of all drivers. Well, nobody does it better! Mika Salo does also a good job and stands next to Damon Hill – but at the same time respectably far behind his team-colleague. Second row is totally occupied by Tyrrell with its drivers Nik Heidfeld and Jos Verstappen. Jordan and Williams are out of nowhere. But, of course, best qualifying-time goes to buzzin’ hornet Mika Hakkinen in 1.03:89.
A sunny day in Montreal – indeed a perfect day for a historic race! Just as seen in qualifying, Ferrari dominates also the championship-race in a very incredible way: Damon Hill, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Mika Salo celebrate the first triple-victory ever seen in our Formula De-League (for this victory Ferrari earnes a bonus of $ 11)! Alex Zanardi (Jordan) does his best and reaches 4th place, closely behind Mika Salo. Williams demonstrates its upraising strenght: Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Irvine and Gerhard Berger come in on 5th, 6th and 7th position. Tyrrell slips right into disaster – only 8th, 9th and – too bad for championship-leader Rubens Barricello – 11th place left in this race.
With this heroic result Ferrari reaches top of all rankings – Damon Hill matches Rubens Barrichello in an excitingly head-to-head-combat. On the other end of the table, Williams and Jordan fight a very hard struggle for 3rd and 4th place in the championship-ranking.
