Season 2000
ITALY - Monza
Date: 07-10-2000
(Please check Houserules for explanation)
Jordan strikes back – pole-position for David Coulthard, Takagi’s substitute since Hungary. The yellow team reaches pole-position seven times during the last eight races – no more, no less! First row is totally occupied by Jordan with its driver Alex Zanardi standing on second starting-position. Not so far behind him Damon Hill (Ferrari) and Nik Heidfeld (just as in Belgium, Tyrrell sends a heavy light of resurrection) find their way to second row. And of course (needless to say) best qualifying-time for buzzin’ hornet David Coulthard in 0.58:72.
Crazy weather-conditions in Italy – and (thanks to it) a very thrilling race occurs in Monza. Black clouds at the beginning, a little sunshine in the middle, heavy raindrops at the end – these are the ingredients of a great victory for championship-leader Damon Hill (Ferrari), who probably does his masterpiece. Rubens Barrichello, who stays safely in front until the last curve of the last lap (!), slips out and comes in on 6th place with applying all his energies – saving one championship-point! Only one car drops out today – but very, very effectively: Ralf Schumacher (Williams) runs into the back of three other cars and clambers out of his wreckage only six stops after takeoff!
Three drivers remain for a very exciting season-final: Damon Hill (Ferrari/72), Rubens Barrichello (Tyrrell/59) and – only theoretically – Nik Heidfeld (Tyrrell/44). If Hill reaches eight points more than Barrichello in Indianapolis, than he repeats his championship-victory of the previous year!
