Qualifying
Raindrops everywhere in Monte Carlo – and a little comeback for Jordan: Mika Hakkinen gets the first pole-position this season for the buzzin’ hornets-team! He also gets best qualifying-time in 1:29,23. Heinz-Harald Frentzen (Ferrari) stands beside him, and also Rubens Barrichello (Tyrrell) in third starting-position has identical qualifying-result as Hakkinen. Very tough guys, all of them! Today the team of Williams isn’t competitive: only the last three starting-positions for Berger, Schumacher and Irvine (at last this driver is well beaten and hopelessly far behind the others).
Race
Bad weather with heavy rain in Monaco. It’s the race of Rubens Barrichello (Tyrrell) and Mika Hakkinen (Jordan). Behind them, hardest fights take place between Zanardi, Takagi (both Jordan), Salo and Hill - again making a stall like in the race before at the Nuerburgring - (both Ferrari). Barrichello, who is only one stop in front of Hakkinen since takeoff, stays exactly this stop in front till finishing-line. Salo and Hill come in on third and fourth place, Takagi gets his first point this season – close behind Zanardi, but much closer in front of Verstappen (Tyrrell). A black day for Williams finds also an end – one of the worst qualifyings ever and no points left today.

So, Rubens Barrichello celebrates his fourth victory in the seventh race of the season (well, follow this example, Schumi, so you are able to win world-championship …) – he seems to be unbeatable. Ferrari stays on the scene and the team of Jordan does a small jump forward.
