A rainy day in Silverstone – what else can it be in England? Jordan rides a hard attack and does the very best job this year: 2nd, 3rd and 4th place on starting grid, beaten only by Nick Heidfeld (Tyrrell), who makes his first poleposition ever! Since Imola, Ferrari enters a state of crisis: once again only 6th, 7th and 10th starting place. Williams is of absolutely no importance this time. Best qualifying-time: Mika Hakkinen (no wonder – a Jordan-driver) in 1.14:96.
Very friendly weather-conditions – sunshine all around! But too bad, it is a very, very slow and boring race for more than two laps. The only highlight happens at the beginning of the third lap: For the first time ever in Line League-history the leading group consists of three drivers of just one team (Barrichello, Heidfeld and Verstappen, doing their best for Tyrrell every minute, breathing only for Formula One)!
In the end, this years second double-victory for Tyrrell is all too easy. Barrichello wins the third race of totally four! What a tough, unbeatable guy. Damon Hill (Ferrari) comes in on third place, followed by Mika Hakkinen and Alex Zanardi, two drivers of the Jordan-team. Just as in qualifying, Williams does a very bad job this time – two cars retire in the second lap and no points left for their third pilot (Gerhard Berger) at the end. All nine drivers placed came in within only four stops!
