Heavy rain in Imola but what a glorious day for Williams: First pole-position for a Williams-Pilot after 19 races (lucky guy this time no more, no less)! Tyrrell did also a great qualifiying: 2nd, 4th and 5th place on launching pad! Ferrari rushed headlong into disaster making the 6th, 10th and 12th starting places - Ferraris badest qualifying in more than two years FD-racing. Best qualifying-time: Alex Zanardi (Jordan who else can it be) in 1:18.37
Bad weather-conditions - sometimes rain, sometimes sun, but heavy rain at least nearly for two laps. The cars of Ferrari, Jordan and Tyrrell spin around more than half a dozen of times (shame on their bloody damned mechanics). After all that and five drop-outs later, Rubens Barrichello (Tyrrell) wins his second Grand Prix of the season this time in a very clear, superior way. Five stops later (!) Nik Heidfeld comes in at second place and completes double-victory for Tyrrell.
Championship-points also go to Salo and Frentzen (both Ferrari), Irvine and Berger (both Williams). Too bad for Jordan - no points left this time; the same ugly thing as it was in Australia - come on, guys (maybe some extra-training would lead you out of chaos).
